This is a vintage fine art giclee print featuring Mistinquett sporting a very lavish black hat. Mistinquett was the highest-paid female entertainer in the world in the 1920's, who enthralled her audience with torrid love affairs and set a trend for future divas by insuring her legs for $1m. A regular performer at the Moulin Rouge and the Folies-Bergere, Mistinguett set many of the trends for future performers. It was she who established the practice of appearing on stage by descending a sweeping staircase, and her oversized head-dress was copied all over the world. The Valse Chaloupee tango dance was also first performed by Mistinguett in 1909. The dance involves the man throwing and dragging his female partner around the stage in a routine suggestive of male domination. Mistinguett's signature song was ' Mon Homme' , which was recorded in 1920 and has become a jazz staple. At the death of Gesmar in 1928, the singer entrusted her design work - from costumes and sets to programs and posters - to Zig, whose real name was Louis Gaudin.
