The Arts Dance Fine Art Giclee Print
This is a vintage fine art giclee print by Alphonse Mucha. Alphonse Maria Mucha is most often remembered for the dominant role he played in shaping the aesthetics of French Art Nouveau at the turn of the century. As a struggling and relatively unknown artist of Czech origin, Mucha achieved immediate fame when, in December 1894, he accepted a commission to create a graphic to advertise the greatest actress of the time, Sarah Bernhardt. That first widely circulated artwork and those that followed were so revolutionary in concept and style that Mucha's art became widely known throughout Europe as 'le style Mucha'. According to his book, ' Alphonse Mucha: The Complete Posters and Panels, ' Jack Rennert states that ' When it comes to personifying abstract comments through beautiful women, Mucha's inventiveness never flags. Here is abundant proof in the . . . strikingly posed [muse] representing . . . Dance . . . The Mucha hair is in its glory, especially on the brunette representing the uninhibited movement of the dance. Mucha's other habitual indulgence, the circular halo, assumes in this case the shape of a crescent filled with secondary circles' (p. 211).
