Leon Bakst Costume Design for a Bacchante in 'Narcisse' by Tcherepnin, 1911

This is a fine art giclee print of a painting by Leon Bakst entitled "Costume Design for a Bacchante in Narcisse by Tcherephin " done in 1911. Bakst was born in Russia but devided much of his working life between Paris and St Petersburg. Trained at the imperial academy of arts in St Petersburg, Bakst found employment as a scenery and costume designer for Sergei Diaghilev the founder of the Ballets Russes. When Diaghilev brought his ballet company to Paris, the bold and vibrant colours of the sets and costumes sent shockwaves throught he world of fashion. The sudued tasteful and classic colours of art Nouveau suddenly appeared dowdy and dull compared to the outrageous and sumptuousness of BAKST'S DESIGNS. Dwawing his inpirations from the Orient,Bakst decorated his exotic costumes with beads and feathers. See Leon Bakst Costume Design for a Bacchante in 'Narcisse' by Tcherepnin, 1911 framed.
