Pennsylvania Railroad Washington DC Poster
Pennsylvania Railroad Washington DC Poster The stacked perspective may not be geographically accurate, what with every monument and important landmark in the District of Columbia being visible from a single vantage point. But, it does, however, make for a compelling and persuasive poster for the Pennsylvania Railroads service to the nations Capital. It also was something of a motif when it came to the railroads advertising scheme for The City Beautiful. Eggleston doesn’t include a locomotive in his design – that might have got in the way of the exquisitely struck balance between elegance and a monumental style. So why not let a leggy passenger provide all the railway information necessary with the mere act of deboarding. An exquisite memento of a more gracious era. Vintage Stansstad Engelberg Railway Train Poster 1898 Switzerland
In 1898 the railway Stansstad-Engelberg Railway was built. The line was electrified with three phase current, which was used by the 'valley' trams and 'mountain' locomotives. On the plains part of the line the traffic was handled by the trams; for connection with Engelberg these trams were pushed uphill by small locomotives. Due to aging rolling stock and loss of traffic, the STEB went into bankrupty in 1964. See Vintage Stansstad Engelberg Railway Train Poster 1898 Switzerland enlarged or framed.

Vintage New York Central Railroad 1946 Leslie Ragan Poster
In 1867, American railroad magnate, Cornelius Vanderbilt, became president of the New York Central Railroad and through a series of mergers, formed the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. By 1930, after absorbing other large rail companies and reverting back to its original name, the New York Central was one of the leading lines connecting the Eastern seaboard with Midwestern cities. This powerful image, set at Chicago's La Salle Street Station with the Ceres-topped Board of Trade Building towering in the background, proudly displays each engine model of the Central fleet, from the old-fashioned steam engine to the post-war marvel of the Diesel and the Streamlined Steam marvel, The Twentieth Century Limited, designed by Henry Dreyfus, its front crest actually inspired by the Mohawk haircut. An inspired Ragan design that promotes both the glitz of passenger service and the bread-and-butter of the freight lines. The original poster has sold at auction for $1,800. Union Terminal Cleveland Ohio Central 1930 Leslie Ragan Giclee Print
Since the late 1800's, railroads had been constructing train stations of monumental proportions, featuring a variety of classical design elements. In the 1920's, it was time for Cleveland, Ohio, to gain such a structure, and for railroad passengers to gain the convenience of a single union station, eliminating the need to transfer across town when changing between trains of different rail lines. In 1925, the firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst and White was engaged to engineer the proposed structure, having completed Chicago's Union Station earlier that year. Their design included an office building that, upon completion in 1930, became the trademark feature of Cleveland's skyline. The superb passenger trains of the New York Central Lines paused here on their luxury runs connecting New York City and Boston with the Midwest, and the terminal also played host to the fine trains of the Baltimore & Ohio and the nickel Plate. For many years, Terminal Tower was the tallest building in the city, at 708 feet, and it stands today, attractively illuminated each evening, and still a Cleveland landmark overlooking Lake Erie. This poster is part of a series the artist created for the N.Y. Central celebrating cities that it served.
